Enrichment classes at Le Petit Pâtissier
Le Petit Pâtissier has enrichment classes for kids of every age, from 2 to 18. Classes are designed to work on skills that are developmentally appropriate for your child to maximize learning potential and create an environment which inspires independence and confidence. In each of our classes, from toddlers to teens, we encourage our students to try new foods, flavors, and cuisines, expanding their culinary horizons, and more generally, their openness to new experiences.
We are thoughtful about our pedagogy, and believe children learn best in a warm, encouraging environment and from instructors with a gentle approach. Our priority is to promote students’ sense of independence and confidence, and to nurture their innate curiosity and creativity.
Classes are 1-2.5 hours long (depending on your child’s age), with a maximum of 8 students per class, and feature fun recipes your child will be excited to make, high-quality ingredients, instruction and support from a classically-trained chef, and a copy of all recipes made so your child can practice and recreate them at home. At the end of each class, your child will enjoy sharing the food they made with friends at the table, practicing socialization skills and table etiquette.

2-4 year olds
Our early childhood classes feature multi-sensory exploration, learning, and play. These classes introduce our youngest petit pâtissiers to fresh ingredients and new flavors, as well as kitchen hygiene and safety practices. Together with their chef instructor, students will select ingredients from our pantry, exploring them with all our senses. We cook simple recipes that are designed to work on fine motor skills and build confidence in the kitchen, as well as stimulate your child’s curiosity and creativity. At the end of each class, students will enjoy sharing the fruits of their labor with friends and caregivers around the table, practicing socialization skills and watching their grownups model table manners.

5-8 year olds
Our 5-8 year old classes teach students fundamental culinary skills and techniques, including kitchen safety and hygiene, through hands-on lessons. We approach our recipes using all our five senses, learning by touching, tasting, smelling, seeing, listening, and doing. Techniques in these classes refine fine motor skills and hand-eye coordination, and allow students to practice communication and teamwork with their fellow classmates.
One of our goals in these classes is to introduce students to a variety of fresh foods and preparations that can help expand palates and openness to trying new things. We model a welcoming and open-minded approach to new foods, flavors, and food cultures.
We also introduce math and science concepts in these classes, including how to follow a formula, sequencing and logical thinking, and chemical and physical reactions.
Our primary goal in these classes is to nurture your child’s growing sense of independence and confidence, and to allow them space to be curious and creative.

9-12 year olds
Our 9-12 year old classes work on age-appropriate cooking and baking techniques, with more complex recipes and mature flavor profiles than our classes for younger students.
In these classes, we also explore more math and science concepts through the lens of our recipes, including how to follow a formula, coming up with a plan for accomplishing a multi-step process, measurements and fractions, and scientific processes and reactions.
We also explore where our food comes from and introduce nutritional and environmental issues relating to food, including things like eating organically and sustainably, and dietary needs and preferences.
As always, our priority in these classes is nurturing your child’s sense of confidence, creativity, and curiosity, and having fun! Our classes culminate at the table where students share a meal and ideas.

13-18 year olds
Our teen classes feature recipes that involve more advanced culinary and pastry techniques, and explore both culinary classics as well as new culinary trends. Students will enjoy socializing with their fellow classmates while learning cooking techniques and practices that will help them as they develop increasingly independent living skills.
Our primary goals in our teen classes are to bolster students’ sense of confidence and independence, and do empower students with the knowledge and know-how to make good food choices.

Special programs
In addition to our group enrichment classes, we also have special single class offerings: Friday Dinner for Your Grownups classes and Holiday classes.
We also have the option for your petit pâtissier to join us for a single trial class before deciding whether to join us for an program.
Private classes
Does your child have a crew they’d like to cook with? We offer private classes for these groups, and can customize menus based on personal preferences, dietary restrictions, and allergies. Contact us for private class rates.
